NOTE: kung hindi niyo pa 'to na basa, basahin nyo 'to... ganda ng mensahe...... ito yung winning speech ni patricia evangelista.....
WHEN I was little, I wanted what many Filipino children all over the country wanted. I wanted to be blond, blue-eyed and white.
By Patricia Evangelista
I thought – if I just wished hard enough and was good enough, I’d wake up on Christmas morning with snow outside my window and freckles across my nose!
More than four centuries under western domination can do that to you. I have 16 cousins. In a couple of years, there will just be five of us left in the Philippines, the rest will have gone abroad in search of “greener pastures.” It’s not an anomaly; it’s a trend; the Filipino diaspora. Today, about eight million Filipinos are scattered around the world.
There are those who disapprove of Filipinos who choose to leave. I used to. Maybe this is a natural reaction of someone who was left behind, smiling for family pictures that get emptier with each succeeding year. Desertion, I called it. My country is a land that has perpetually fought for the freedom to be itself. Our heroes offered their lives in the struggle against the Spanish, the Japanese, the Americans. To pack up and deny that identity is tantamount to spitting on that sacrifice.
Or is it? I don’t think so. Not anymore.
True, there is no denying this phenomenon, aided by the fact that what was once the other side of the world is now a 12-hour plane ride away. But this is a borderless world, where no individual can claim to be purely from where he is now. My mother is of Chinese descent, my father is a quarter Spanish, and I call myself a pure Filipino – a hybrid of sorts resulting from a combination of cultures.
Each square mile anywhere in the world is made up of people of different ethnicities, with national identities and individual personalities. Because of this, each square mile is already a microcosm of the world. In as much as this blessed spot that is England is the world, so is my neighborhood back home.
Seen this way, the Filipino Diaspora, or any sort of dispersal of populations, is not as ominous as so many claim. It must be understood. I come from a Third World country, one that is still trying mightily to get back on its feet after many years of dictatorship. But we shall make it, given more time. Especially now, when we have thousands of eager young minds who graduate from college every year. They have skills. They need jobs. We cannot absorb them all.
A borderless world presents a bigger opportunity, yet one that is not so much abandonment but an extension of identity. Even as we take, we give back. We are the 40,000 skilled nurses who support the United Kingdom’s National Health Service. We are the quarter-of-a-million seafarers manning most of the world’s commercial ships. We are your software engineers in Ireland, your construction workers in the Middle East, your doctors and caregivers in North America, and, your musical artists in London’s West End.
Nationalism isn’t bound by time or place. People from other nations migrate to create new nations, yet still remain essentially who they are. British society is itself an example of a multi-cultural nation, a melting pot of races, religions, arts and cultures. We are, indeed, in a borderless world!
Leaving sometimes isn’t a matter of choice. It’s coming back that is. The Hobbits of the shire traveled all over Middle-Earth, but they chose to come home, richer in every sense of the word. We call people like these balikbayans or the “returnees” – those who followed their dream, yet choose to return and share their mature talents and good fortune.
In a few years, I may take advantage of whatever opportunities that come my way. But I will come home. A borderless world doesn’t preclude the idea of a home. I’m a Filipino, and I’ll always be one. It isn’t about geography; it isn’t about boundaries. It’s about giving back to the country that shaped me.
And that’s going to be more important to me than seeing snow outside my window on a bright Christmas morning.
Mabuhay and thank you.

The Game Is On For The Celebrity Housemates!

The Game Is On For The Celebrity Housemates!
The Pinoy Big Brother fever is alive once again with the successful premiere of Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition! Last night, thousands of people gathered in Baywalk, Manila to witness the grand presentation of Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition's 14 housemates, who have started a new exciting adventure inside Big Brother’s house.
In a star-studded grand welcome party, the fans of the number one reality TV show finally got to meet the 14 housemates. And as early as now, it seems that the PBB diehards have already picked their personal favorites! Here are the 14 housemates who were formally introduced to the public during last night’s show.
Meet The New Housemates
Housemate #1 is Rudy Fernandez, a multi-awarded Filipino para-athlete, who was once recognized as the fastest Filipino runner during the '70s. Dubbed as the “Iron Man of Asia,” Mang Rudy won numerous awards in different sporting competitions, which made him famous not only in the Philippines but throughout Asia. He's the oldest among the 14 housemates.
Housemate #2 is Bianca Gonzalez. This bubbly girl next door housemate is a familiar face on TV. Before joining PBB, Bianca used to host Studio 23’s youth-oriented show “Y Speak!” and ABS-CBN’s “Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.” Bianca, who is dubbed as “Y-Speaker of the House,” said in her interview last night that although she's excited to be inside Big Brother’s house, she’s scared to be separated from her loved ones. “In general, masayahin akong tao, pero kapag nalayo na ako sa pamilya ko, mga kaibigan ko, nakakalungkot na ako. Pero kakayanin natin yan,” she added
Housemate # 3 is another TV personality with a pretty face. She’s none other than the “Wild Flower of Cebu,” Angela Calina. The multi-awarded TV host is a known figure in her hometown. Apart from her shows in Cebu, Angela has also appeared in several ABS-CBN programs here in Manila.
Housemate #4 is John Prats. The female fans who were present in Baywalk screamed upon seeing this housemate. John is a former child actor turned teen heartthrob. Aside from his acting prowess, John is also known to be a master of the dance floor that’s why he is dubbed as the “Dance Floor Dynamite.”
Housemate #5 is another certified heartthrob. He is Rico Robles. Apart from his cool sounding voice, this good-looking DJ of the FM radio station RX 93.1, also has what it takes to entice female viewers.
Housemate #6 is “Divang Kolehiya” Roxane Barcelo. Aside from her angelic face, Roxane’s singing prowess will surely make the guy fans admire her more. Roxane has appeared in several teen and drama shows when she was still young. Unfortunately the programs didn’t last long on air. She hopes to make a comeback in showbiz through her stint in Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition.
Housemate #7 is the "Hunk Daddy" housemate, Christian Vasquez. Christian’s showbiz career blossomed after he appeared in various TV commercials. During his interview with Toni, Christian admitted that joining Pinoy Big Brother was a tough decision to make since it’s not easy for him to be away from his two kids.
Ang Cellphone at ang Bible
Saturday, February 04, 2006
Ang Bible laging on time ang message.
Ang cellphone kailangan magload para mag-message,
Ang Bible laging fully loaded ang message.
Ang cellphone ay mahalagang gamit ng tao,
pero ang Bible ay mas mahalaga kung gagamitin ng tao.
The Blog Virus

This new "Blog Worm" is an animated GIF that has been embedded in a number of blogs and links to the creators website. If you want to infect your own blog, you can click the link and copy the code. Please note: this isn't a real worm, it has the qualities of a worm: spreading.
Although this could have some form of security implications (what doesn't these days?), the creator, Robin Schuil ensures there is nothing malicious with this worm, "There are no malicious plans with the blog worm. However, it is a self mutating worm. From day to day it will say different things." As days go by, it will be "mutating", or changing its headlines. Pretty funny!
